DBT Skills & Training in Cairns & Online Across Australia
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills is an evidence-based program designed to help people manage intense emotions, reduce impulsive behaviours, and build more stable relationships. At Cairns Beaches Psychology, our registered and clinical psychologists deliver DBT-informed treatment for teens and adults in individual therapy and structured skills training, offered in person in Cairns and via secure online sessions Australia-wide.
DBT Skills integrates practical strategies with compassionate, non-judgemental support. It is especially helpful for people experiencing emotion dysregulation, anxiety, depression, self-criticism, self-harm urges, relationship conflict, or stress and burnout.
Our DBT Skills program teaches four core modules you can start using right away:
Mindfulness — noticing thoughts and feelings without being overwhelmed; returning to the present moment.
Distress Tolerance — crisis survival and grounding skills to ride out urges and high-stress moments safely.
Emotion Regulation — understanding emotions, reducing vulnerability, and increasing everyday balance.
Interpersonal Effectiveness — clear communication, boundary setting, and conflict resolution that protects relationships and self-respect.
Depending on your needs, DBT Skills can be delivered as stand-alone skills training, integrated into individual therapy, or combined with other evidence-based approaches such as CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, EMDR and mindfulness-based therapies. We tailor a plan to your goals, life stage, and practical circumstances.
People who complete DBT Skills often report fewer crises, greater emotional stability, and more confidence in handling difficult situations. Over time, these tools support lasting change in mood, relationships, study/work, and overall quality of life.
